Measles is a very serious and contagious disease that can be vaccinated against in most healthy individuals over the age of one. People who have been infected with the measles can unknowingly spread it prior to any symptoms appearing. The measles can even be deadly especially for infants, children, the elderly, and individuals with compromised immune systems. According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), measles is an airborne disease that is spread via coughing or sneezing. It can contaminate a surface for up to two hours after the individual carrying the infection has left the area. If you suspect you have been exposed there are some common symptoms of measles that you’ll want to be on the lookout for.
Fever
Fever tends to be one of the first signs that lets you know something is wrong. It tells us our bodies are fighting something. In the case of measles, a fever is one of the first signs that appears and comes on strong. After its initial appearance, a fever associated with the measles can spike to over 104 degrees. At that point, the person who has contacted the measles virus is incredibly contagious and should be monitored carefully.
