2. Symptoms
Measles symptoms typically appear about 10-14 days after the initial infection, so yes, don’t celebrate just yet if you don’t fall sick 5 days after coming into contact with an infected person. It could take up to 2 weeks before any symptoms start to show. A high fever, lasting 3 to 4 days, is always the first sign of measles. This is usually followed by any of the following symptoms:
- A rash which starts in the face and neck and spreads down the body
- Dry cough
- Runny nose
- Watery or red eyes
- Sensitivity to light
- Body aches
- White spots in the mouth called Koplik spots
