10. The Sponge
Similar to a diaphragm, the birth control sponge acts as a locked gate to your cervix. It’s made of squishy plastic and contains spermicide. The sponge needs to stay in place for at least six hours after sex, but it can be left in for up to twenty-four hours. Like other methods on the list, this one needs to be placed properly to be effective. If you’ve already given birth in the past, the sponge might not fit so well. Effectiveness stats are better for women who have never given birth.
