Symptoms of Gonorrhea in Women

Gonorrhea is a common Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) that affects women. It is caused by a bacterium passed from one sexual partner to the other during unprotected vaginal, anal or oral sex.

To make matters worse, it has symptoms that can be difficult to detect, making it easier to carry and transmit the infection without knowing. Left untreated, gonorrhea can make it easier to contract other STI’s, e.g., trichomoniasis or STD’s, e.g., HIV/AIDS, or cause other health complications.

Here are 10 most common telltale signs of gonorrhea women easily miss.

1. Fever

Fever is often a telltale sign of an infection. What type of infection would need a little digging to find out. The fever may be accompanied by chills, headaches or body aches making you think you have a common cold or flu. It can take between 2-30 days of exposure for a fever to develop. The fever and other flu-like symptoms may be reduced with over-the-counter cold and flu medication and may eventually go away. The infection will, however, remain until treated by a doctor.
