Complications of PID
1. Infertility
2. Pelvic pain that doesn’t go away
3. Chronic PID
4. Ectopic pregnancy. This is a dangerous condition where the embryo doesn’t implant in the womb but starts to grow in the damaged fallopian tube. Eventually, the tube can burst. This leads to life-threatening complications.
A woman who has developed an abscess because of her PID will need to stay in the hospital to have it drained. She will also need to have drugs given to her intravenously. She may also need to stay in the hospital if she is found to be pregnant.
