Preventing PID
PID can be prevented if the woman makes her sexual partner use a condom every time they are intimate. She should also get into the habit of visiting her gynecologist regularly if she has multiple partners, and she should get prompt medical care if she notices that she has a fever, a strange vaginal discharge or if she spots between her periods. She should also insist that her partner be tested for STDs, and they should not resume relations until both of their infections are cleared up.
Outcome
The good news is that if PID is caught early and treated, the woman can make a full recovery. Dangerous complications only happen if the disease is left untreated.
