3. Reasons Behind a Hysterectomy
There are numerous reasons a woman may need a hysterectomy. Some of the most common reasons include:
- uterine fibroids – or noncancerous growths on the uterus wall. Although they are usually benign tumors, they can still cause a lot of health issues, such as pain, bleeding, swelling, or bladder concerns
- heavy or unusual vaginal bleeding, which is typically due to changes within the hormone levels, or possibly due to infection
- uterine prolapse- when the pelvic muscles become too weak to help support the uterus. This often leads to bowel and/or urinary problems.
- endometriosis, which is when the endometrial lining moves into areas outside of the uterus. This leads to bleeding, scarring, and adhesions, all of which can be painful and could lead to permanent damage
