5. Rectal Bleeding
Diverticulitis causes rectal bleeding if feces has been lodged in your diverticula for a long period of time. Symptoms of rectal bleeding can appear as blood in stool, gradually bleeding, or a massive outpouring of blood at once. If you have any signs indicating rectal bleeding, you should see a doctor immediately. Left untreated, rectal bleeding can result in anemia, a ruptured colon, or infection. While rectal bleeding sounds very painful, you may experience this symptom with zero pain at all. However, most people that discover they have rectal bleeding do so after seeing streaks of blood in their stool.
