6. Inflammation
The National Institute of Diabetes and Kidney Diseases characterizes diverticulitis by the diverticula that become inflamed. This inflammation attacks the weakest parts of the colon. The pouches then form in these areas. This inflammation that you feel as part of your diverticulitis symptoms will likely occur in the lower left region of your abdomen. The pressure felt in this area can lead to vomiting, nausea, and labored breathing. As the symptoms get worse, you may experience explosive diarrhea, digestive upset, and inflammation attacks. These attacks are a big difference between diverticulitis vs diverticulosis. Diverticulosis happens when the diverticula pouches initially begin to form. Diverticulitis occurs after the diverticula have become inflamed.
