2. Fruit
In general, fruits of all types are full of hard to digest fiber and therefore irritating to sensitive intestines. During bouts of diverticulitis, it is best to abstain from eating unpeeled, raw fruit like apples, pears, and plums. Also, citrus fruit and juice containing pulp can cause discomfort. It’s best to skip the strawberries and figs which are full of tiny seeds, but clear fruit juice, canned peaches, or smooth, cooked apple sauce can be substituted.
