4. Beans and Legumes
Beans and legumes are super healthy foods, but they are not optimal choices for a diverticulitis diet. They are packed full of soluble and insoluble fiber, take more work to digest, and they produce excessive amounts of gas in the intestinal tract. Because your aim is to give your system a break during diverticulitis, it’s best to stay away from the following foods:
- Navy, kidney, black, or pinto beans in soups, stews, or dips
- Lentils
- Chickpeas or hummus
- Dried green peas (pea soup)
