6. High-fat Foods
Another group of foods to avoid with diverticulitis are those that are high in fat. Some that fit this category are full-fat dairy products like milk and soft cheese, all fried foods, and fatty meats like salami, lunchmeat, bacon, and some cuts of pork and beef. Saturated fats and grease are a burden to the digestive system and can cause bloating and gas. Also, lactose is particularly hard on the large intestine causing excessive bloating and discomfort. Low-fat yogurt and hard cheese are dairy products that aren’t high in lactose content, so they won’t be as disruptive to a sensitive bowel.
