5. Congenital Factors
Males aged 12 to 18 have the highest risk of experiencing testicular torsion. The age range makes sense, as the rapid growth of the testicle is a potential cause of torsion. If you’ve experienced previous occurrences, or intermittent torsion and detorsion you might be at a higher risk to experience it again. Detorsion is where the testicle corrects itself without intervention. Interestingly, there is a congenital factor to testicular torsion. Some males are born with testicles that can rotate in the scrotum, increasing their chances of developing torsion. If you’re unsure if you fall into this camp, you can always talk to your doctor.
