3. Gender Dysphoria Does Not Require A Medical Transition
Medical transition can include potentially gender-affirming surgeries. These surgeries, sometimes called “top surgery” and “bottom surgery,” can help treat the symptoms of gender dysphoria by altering the patient’s body so that it conforms more closely to their gender identity. However, it is a common misconception that all forms of dysphoria require treatment by medical transition. Medical transition is a complicated and personal choice. People experiencing gender dysphoria may choose not to medically transition for many reasons. Transgender people do not have to transition medically in order for their identities to be valid.
