3. Prescription Medication for Trichomoniasis
If you are experiencing severe trichomoniasis symptoms treatment may include prescription medication. Some of the more common prescription medications include metronidazole and tinidazole. It is important to note that some individuals may be asymptomatic. This is why it is important to have routine physical exams.
While these prescriptions have been deemed safe, it is important not to mix them with alcohol. Both can have harmful side effects when combined with alcohol. How do these side effects manifest themselves? Most people will experience a disulfiram-like reaction, typically denoted by blotchy skin, nausea, difficulty breathing, nausea, and chest pain. To be safe, abstain from alcohol 24 hours after taking metronidazole and 72 hours after taking tinidazole.
