Because the disease is irreversible, treatment is prevention based. Meaning that the main goal of osteoporosis treatment is to prevent fractures and further bone loss. There are a variety of medications you can take to help strengthen your bones. Bisphosphonates reduce additional bone loss. Parathyroid hormone regulates calcium in the bone. Hormone therapy maintains bone density. Selective estrogen receptor modulators maintain bone density and reduce the risk of fracture. Testosterone treatments similarly help reduce bone fractures. It might take some trial and error to find the treatment that works best for your body.
