5. Preventing Osteoporosis
The best and easiest way to prevent osteoporosis is to make sure you have a nutrient rich diet. Most importantly a diet that includes plenty of vitamin D and calcium. People between 19 to 50 should get 1000 mg of calcium per day, and between 400-1000 IU of vitamin D. Anyone over 50 should be getting 1200 mg of calcium and between 800-2000 IU of vitamin D. Try and get at least two and a half hours of vigorous exercise per week, particularly strength and resistance training. If you are a smoker and frequent drinker, you should stop smoking and cut back on how much you drink.
