6. Risks

There are a few factors that can increase your risk of developing sciatica, or sciatic-like pain. Perhaps the most obvious one is aging. As we age, things in our bodies tend to wear down and/or break. If you also have underlying conditions that make your bones or joints weaker, the risk is that much higher as you age. If you have diabetes and it’s particularly volatile, your risk of incurring nerve damage is higher. Lastly, your career can have a lasting impact on your body: lifting heavy things all day, sitting for extended periods of time, or twisting and repetitive motion can all create risk.
