7. Prevention

It may come as no surprise that the best way to prevent sciatica is by exercising regularly, and being generally mindful of your body. Make sure to exercise regularly, and focus on maintaining a strong yet flexible core and lower back. Second, be mindful of your posture, especially when seated. Does your chair support your legs and lower back? Do you cross your legs at your desk? If so, stop that. Lastly, be mindful of how you move during the day. Walk with a backpack and a balanced gait. Don’t stoop bent over too long, and if you need to lift something heavy, be sure to bend at the knees and lift with your legs.
