4. Treatment and Pain Relief
There are a variety of ways to treat sciatica and its pain, and the remedies range from simple to fairly involved. The simplest way to reduce pain is to use heat packs or ice packs, which help reduce swelling and pain. Over-the-counter medication also helps reduce swelling and pain, so try ibuprofen or aspirin as a quick solution. Physical therapy and/or massage therapy also helps with sciatic pain, and your physiotherapist may recommend some exercises and stretches to perform. Stretching and getting regular exercise are great ways to treat sciatica. In severe cases, epidural steroids and/or surgery may be required to fully treat the sciatica.
