It’s vital people understand anal herpes is a contagious disease. If you have sexual contact with an infected person, you can become infected as well. Anal herpes is most contagious when there are lesions on the skin in and around the anus. However, it’s possible to contract the virus when no obvious symptoms of the infection are present. Sometimes the virus can be dormant for a very long time. Even if a a person infected with HSV-II doesn’t show any obvious symptoms they can still pass the virus on through sexual contact.
