2. How Do You Get Herpes?
The virus can be transmitted when broken skin or open sores come into contact with the infected lesion during sex or intimate contact such as kissing or foreplay. It may get onto the hand and pass if you touch your mouth or genitals. Many adults with oral herpes contracted the infection during childhood by coming into close contact with someone such as a family member carrying the virus. For example, an infected mom can kiss a child and pass on the infection. Although it mostly affects the mouth, HSV 1 can also affect the eyes in rare cases.
